It is made of thin sheets of finely chased gold inlaid with lapis lazuli, and black and white glass paste. The king is depicted wearing the nemes headdress with a uraeus atop his forehead. The uraeus is the symbol of Wadjet, the patron goddess and protector of Lower Egypt. The king also sports a false beard with a slightly curled tip to emulate the beard of Osiris, god of the dead and king of the afterlife. The mask was found in Psusennes I's tomb in Tanis (modern-day San el-Hagar) in Lower Egypt and was placed directly upon his mummy.
